Do they?

Is "abuse" the way forward based on our views of the road and is it any different to the driver whose view of the road is that cyclists should be in the gutter so abuses anyone who contravenes their view of how things should be?

I'm not talking about the more or less involuntary "venting" after being nearly wiped out - that's a reaction.

Cycling round dishing out "abuse" just adds to the general abusive and intolerant nature of the roads

Good point, I only ever yell "Oi!"

So would it have been OK for all the cars to ignore the red light on the same premise. And is it OK for them to speed if the road is clear?

I should have stated "on here", not out on the road.

Abuse is usually borne of a natural reaction to an event/incident either caused by fright, annoyance or frustration. Whether in a car, on a bike or a humble pedestrian, such reactions, albeit knee jerk and incident related or pre-meditated rant, invariably lead to some sort of confrontation, upset or discussion and usually in the cold light of day an unwanted experience. Bottom line is, we can't predict the reaction of the respondent to our rant, justified or not, or where it will lead, so best avoided in my experience if at all possible

Btw - RLJ'ing .... rarely justifiable and on the mean streets of Cambridge I'm often found contradicting my sage words above in response to it.

Anyone see SonoftheWind's video where he grabs a RLJing cyclist by the backpack? LOL! Wrong of him though, IMO.

LOL yes, i thought it was amusing for a split second that anyone would do that. But i think that grabbing someone is not the thing for us to do. There is a difference between 'talking' to someone about how silly they are and grabbing them and forcing them to stop.

Pedestrians don't jaywalk in the UK, I'm afraid. They're there by right, and we should respect that. Jaywalking laws are very very ignorant, IMO.

Ok, So your saying they have a right to walk across a road while on the phone for example? My point is Pedestrians do careless things too on the road but they dont get a penalty for it?
