Update: North Yorks Police (where the car is registered) would not 'have a word' with the driver without a statement, so I gave one in Driffiled on Sunday. They then spoke to the registered keeper today, they admitted driving the car on the road at that time on that day, and overtaking a vehicle at the very point I described. They stated they never saw a cyclist at all, and would not have overtaken had they seen me. They accepted police words of advice ref. their driving, and asked for their appologies to be passed on to me. Being an ex-copper, I know that without any independant witnesses that is the best result I could have hoped for.

Case closed, it just goes to prove it pays to complain, and be realistic about possible outcomes with no independant witnesses or cctv etc.

I guess the next best thing after getting points/fine is a cop car sat outside their house for the neighbours to see ;)

Cough........................................

I am happy with the outcome. I am alive, and they admitted to enough for me (and the police - and the offending driver) to know I was telling the truth about what happened.

Lack of independant witnesses, camera footage (or them actually hitting me) stopped it going any further.

I think i'd take the same attitude CP...realistically there was nowhere for it all to go. The result is as good as it's going to be. I always hope that even though the drivers effectively got away with it...he'll hopefully drive that bit more carefully or respectfully in the future. If that happens, your time wasn't wasted. Well done....we all hopefully benefit when some sort of action/reporting takes place.

I had a similar thing happen to me with an idiot in one of those warriors. he drove over to my side of the road on a quiet street and headed straight for me, his mate in the passenger side was laughing his head off. I was furious, had to mount the kerb. this is one reason I'm thinking of getting a helmet cam. if I'd have had one on i could have followed it up but I didn't bother because of the usual "witnesses" routine.

Yep, does sound like the best you could hope for in the circumstances. Bulletcams are definitely the way to go. Mostly you won't need them, but they are nice to have sometimes to enjoy looking back on a fun ride, and for incidents like this they mean the difference between one person's word against another and hard evidence.
