This is what infuriates me. I have NO way of protecting myself, or any realistic way of catching them. It's not as if I could get home, get my car and go after them. In a national speed limit they'd be 5-10 miles away, so NO chance of catching up!

Other than paying out on a camera, to watch hours of boring, heavy-breathing-laden footage just in case something happens.

You only need to look at the footage when something happens. Otherwise you can just delete it. Put it this way the tanker incident I had would never have gone to prosecution without it. Which reminds me, I need to chase that up!

I suppose a bit of Amazon/Ebay hunting might find a suitable camera? I only need 15-20 mins (commute) footage at a time. It's not like I need Megabits of memory.

I was riding NE on this road towards Bainton. The TW*T was driving west towards Middleton. It then overtook a car, despite the fact I was in effect the 'oncoming' traffic. I was head down at the time, into a little wind, and only looked up at the last second to see the front of it bearing down on me. I then swerved left across onto the grass as it passed. I then turned round and [fingers crossed] got the right registration number. There were other cars behind it, but I doubt any of them would see it as being worthy of reporting it? I hope they do though, because we could do with one less dangerous driver on the road.

I guess from your description it was a similar situation to this: [media]

It is something that infuriates me. In my case I reported her to the police and she now has her cards marked.

A camera is a good investment for this sort of thing. You can also use it to improve your hazard perception.

The worst thing is there are a few drivers, thankfully in the minority who think it is ok to overtake when there is a two wheeler coming in the opposite direction. I had something similar a while back when I was on a motorbike doing 60 myself when I had a t**t pull a similar stunt. It wouldn't have been too difficult to have turned the bike around and chased the driver down to have words, but I let it go as if I did gain chase I probably would have taken too many risks to catch up. The best thing you can do is to pray they don't have a head on collision with you and get video footage with a registration number, then report to the police.

Exactly. It just looks like I might have to get technology to help me remember/gather evidence, and to 'prove' I am not making up stories.

Although I have absolutely no problem with people posting footage for comment, education or just entertainment, it's not something that you should feel is compulsory. After an initial run of 'OMGLookAtMeOnMyBiikeWithACam' postings, I decided to keep the camera as an insurance policy only and forget about youtube.

If you do go down the cam-as-witness route, I find that the simpler the kit, the better, even at the expense of super hi-res. If your kit is self-contained, has a minimum of switches and is easy to charge then you're more likely to (a) use it and (b) forget that it's there and get on with (mostly) enjoying your ride.

You don't have to watch all of it, you know!

Best of luck catching this maniac though. Let's hope at the very least the police have a strong word.

I've got a Dogcam HQR2. No complaints at all with the footage (it is slightly temperamental, however), but it is a bit of a pain in the arse, as it requires a cable running from the smallish camera on my helmet, to the recorder, which I have to mount somewhere on my body. I've basically given up using it for short journeys as it's not worth the faff.

Thinking about investing in a Contour HD, mainly because it's much simpler to use. Just sits on the helmet. But pricey...

Hope the shaking spell has died down now, CP! I get like that if I'm in a near miss. Not at the time, but a few minutes after, that's when it starts. Delayed shock. At least you seem to be still alive!

Amazingly, looking at your Google location, the road seems to run dead straight for miles, after the point where this incident happened. So your rogue driver would probably have had plenty of chance to overtake legally if he/she had only waited a second or two...

Could it be WG55 MBF. This comes up as a Ford Focus Titanium. Not sure of colour though.
Have you also tried YG55..? Seeing as this was in Yorkshire, sounds possible.

I hate that road in the car too....

Slow down to 50 for any reason and you've got something almost pushing on your bumper. Seen the aftermath of some nasty looking car vs car head-ons on that stretch from Home on Spalding Moor, and further on up to Driffield.

The road was clear behind me, which makes the overtake all the more insideous.

Glad you are ok CP shaken but not stirred. This is one of the reasons I gave up riding everyday as I had several w4nkers do this to me. Some of them even had the rudeness to give me a one fingered salute as they steamed head on toward me at speeds well in excess of 60mph on unclassified Fenland roads. Several times I jumped for my life with bike straight off the road into drainage ditches. Now I only ride occasionally at weekends as it is just too feckin' dangerous. There are a growing hardcore of motons who just do not give a sh1t about cyclists. Like you I used to wear hi-viz and have numeorus lights.

Earlier in the summer however I did invest in 2 Muvi cams, but as good as they are they are still a bit pathetic really. So recently I bought a Contour HD head cam which seems pretty good. Since I got it I have used it mainly for running as I am sick of being chased and abused by dogs and their owners some of whom are really nasty pieces of work. I wished I had it on this evening as some silly bint allowed a huge black dog to chase me, she didn't even call it back. It was twilight nearly dark so I stopped and asked if she'd like it if chased her aggressively trying to bite her which was met with the usual foul abuse. I'll try the Contour HD as a helmet cam tomorrow when I set off early to ride to Cambridge via the number one cycle hating place in the UK full of knuckle draggers - St. Ives, but then after this it is cycling nirvana all the way to Cambridge and back along the guided busway. But I wouldn't cycle on the roads again without a helmet cam as if something were to happen, video evidence would be worth many times it's weight in gold, but without which and no witnesses, having had your life seriously endangered, been forced off the road or knocked down, the police and the CPS will do feck all.

Cripes sounds awful...hope you are ok CP.

That's why I don't trust those tin box drivers.

Sadly this seems to be true.

I had something very similar to that at Stratford today and surprisingly it was a BMW.
