I wasn't sure where to put this, so if it's in the wrong place please feel free to move it^_^
On Sunday we are travelling from the South Lakes to Liverpool for the first stage. I wondered if anyone had good recommendations for where was best to park up for the day. We will have the small ones with is, though they are not that small these days...9 and almost 11. I have had a look on the web for some advice but haven't found anything useful. Are there any park and rides in place? Is parking plentiful in Liverpool even with an event like this? Have never been to Liverpool before so have no local knowledge whatsoever!!
Any help very gratefully accepted:thumbsup:
Plus...what's up with TGI Fridays in Liverpool not taking bookings?? Was going to be eldests birthday tea out but not sure I dare risk it without a booking.

Best parking place is the Liverpool One mall, which includes John Lewis but this is off the Strand, which will be shut from early. Liverpool One will put you right at the start and close to the Maritime Museum with its Titanic exhibition and the Museum of Slavery, both very worth a visit while you wait for the traffic to clear. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the Albert Dock area.

There is a Sky ride from Sefton Park in the morning before the race so the roads will be a bit messed up in the morning as well.

These days all the parking is formalised and I'm not sure one place is better than another. You'll be coming in down the M62 and Edge Lane, so I would head for the centre and choose something above Liverpool One around Duke Street or Bold Street, there are several there. Parkopedia will give you more detail but so long as you come down Edge Lane and head to the centre, you should avoid any diversions around the docks and Parliament Street/Sefton Park.

I shall be taking the train.

I have to say that the information for those travelling in from away is pretty non existent! Travelling by train would be way more expensive for us plus the trains at this end are like hens teeth, which is a shame because it would've made life much easier but hey ho. Cheers for the info.so far guys.

Aww Toeknee! That is lovely of you, thank you! Will keep it in mind! Am just looking at routes and google is sending me straight through road closures to rock ferry lol. Lools like it would be a journey right round would it? Honestly, the busiest road I am used to driving on is an A road dual carriageway lol. It was muh easier when it was in Kendal last year!!

I would suggest the following:

Head for the south of the city, somewhere like Aigburth or Garston, then aim for the waterfront (Riverside Drive) and park in the Garden Festival car park, it's been redeveloped and it's a regular park now, I believe the car park is operational and free. In any case there is other residential parking in this area.

Walk the short distance across Riverside Drive to St Michaels station (through Priory Wood) and take the train 2 or 3 stops to either Liverpool Central station or Moorfields station. Follow the crowds.

Merseyrail timetable here.

EDIT: Alternatively get the train from a station before St Michaels, It should be possible to park directly at Aigburth and Liverpool South Parkway stations.

EDIT2: The Garden Festival car park looks to be inaccessible due to road closures on the day. I'd head for a Merseyrail station instead.

I'd second getting the train in, there are likely plenty of parking spaces around the merseyrail stations. Town is going to be jammed, and with the traffic restrictions in place I wouldn't want to have to find an open parking space on sunday to be honest.

If you're coming in from the north, then I'd actually recommend parking in Ormskirk, and getting the train in from there, there's a fair amount of parking at the station, and it's far enough out to be no problem with others having the same idea, plus it's about half an hour into town, and you might spend longer than that trying to find somewhere to park! The city centre is quite small as far as it goes, so getting around should be no problem even with kids. If you do come in by train, you want to get off at Liverpool Central, it's a short walk from there down to the waterfront, or alteratively you can wander over to Upper Parliament street if your want to catch the bigger climb.

Also plenty of places to eat in town or on the albert dock, and the Liverpool One area has plenty of eating places, there's a Browns and Byron burger right by John Lewis, which are all good. I'd also recommend bold street for food, if you like something a bit more unusual, there's a moroccan place (Kasbah) and Lebanese (Bakchich) which seem to have met with universal approval.

YMMV of course

Thanks guys for all the advice. Now have a decision to make! Park out and train in or risk a battle with traffic! Decisions aren't my strong point! Might see a few off you there! I will be the overexcited redhead with embarressed looking kids and husband:hello:

BEWARE! There are Sunday engineering works on the railways and diversions and delays on trains to Liverpool. Gti Junior and Mrs Gti are going to try to get there by train, best option is for me to drop them at Manchester Piccadilly for a 10.00 train to Lime Street then collect them later by car.
