That's a piece of lignum vitae carved by Lancelot Bryan whose work was sponsored by Prince Charles and commissioned for the Queen, Desmond Tutu and Margaret Thatcher amongst others. He was a dynamic and inspirational man. I was a hopeless student of his and only managed to make a mess.
Sadly, he died at the early age of 51. Here's a picture of him at the Mighty Gully Youth Project that he founded in Jamaica.
