I am proud to say one of my ancestors not only fought on the Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar, but was awarded a prize/ bonus for his actions that day.
I am even more proud that he was a black ancestor and the son of a freed British slave who had earned his freedom by fighting for the British in the US War of Independence
Its somewhat ironic that one of ( if not the) greatest days in British Naval History is also marked by one of the worst pieces of peacetime British history with the loss of 144 lives in the totally preventable Aberfan Disaster

I watched the documentary on the Aberfan disaster. A " must watch " it angered me to see the deviousness and collusion of the authorities and government ministers, and as the Oxford Don said at the end of the programme, citing Hillsborough and Grenfell, it's still going on.
Ill have to have a port, instead of rum. 🍻
