I object to the term "Old people". I wonder if the mods will pick this up. I'm sure it must be derogatory and against the rules.

I prefer the term "Mature generation".

From my point of view the OP's story happens every day of the year in supermarkets. A really bad time to be in a supermarket carpark on the day in question. The size and layout of carparks varies a lot from supermarket to supermarket and makes it harder to park.

One of the big grievances that older people had in the supermarket I worked in (large very wealthy demographic with lots of shoppers in their 60s-80s) was the parent and child spaces that took over a good proportion of the old 'premium' spaces, where when there was a carpark redesign were afforded close spaces to the entrance and a bit of extra space, whereas quite a number of normal spaces were made smaller! Add in some very large cars to the mix and it's carnage on a Friday or Saturday.

I like small parking spaces, something I have written about in the past.

In supermarkets it isn't just the size of the spaces, it's the access roads vary very considerably in size. Some people prefer to back out/into narrower spaces and then put loads of swing at the right point into a wider access road, others prefer slightly wider spaces which are invariably in narrower access roads which is often where the problem is.

I worry you spend too much time in supermarket car parks watching the people and cars.

Supermarket car parks are a collection point for park like a fud people though. How many of them try and park as close to the entrance as possible rather than walk a bit further and have a virtually empty area to park in. You can guarantee many of those parking close now will only struggle further as their non active lifestyle catches up with them.

I usually park as far as possible from the entrance in the middle of dozens of empty spaces. Less chance of being car-doored and extra exercise with the additional walking distance.

Why then, upon arriving back at my vehicle, has some nobber invariably parked in the adjacent slot when there are dozens of empty ones all around?
