Is there anything that sums up the British ability to massacre cuisine more than the phrase "Draught British Sherry"?

Now I think about it, we don't get many bottles from Warninks in the recycling, I guess we don't cover the areas of heavy advocaat use.

I think I'll have the melon boat for starters, complete with maraschino cherry, followed by the gammon steak with pineapple. Thank-you.:hungry:

What was the bear in the pork pie hat? Hofmeister?

I've actually got a can of Hofmeister in my desk drawer at work. It was bought as a Xmas present for me by a colleague in 1991. The expiry date is Sept 91, I think she was trying to tell me something.

The only place to get a schooner of sherry was at the old type Yate's Wine Lodge. Long wooden tables and benches. I once took a young lady there on our first date. When she asked where I was taking her, she was quite impressed when I said a wine lodge. After a few schooners she saw the funny side of it thank god. A good night was had by all. Ah! wonderful memories.

What was that draught wine they used to sell in half pint glasses? Used to get you absolutely legless within about 5 and they wondered why everyone kept fighting. It was like a gluhwein if I remember correctly.

Edit: Was it called Glob or something like that?

Whose bright idea was it to serve chicken in a basket? Why?

Anyway I am having a glass or two of 2008 Medoc. 3.29 euros a bottle. A very pleasant dry red.

Double diamond works wonders. Which wonders was never specified.

Worthington E, frothing its way into an E shaped glass. Bizarre when you look back, somehow never struck you at the time.

Beer was worse then. No question. You could get good beer of course, but in many pubs it was a pint of crap or nothing. Thank God for CAMRA.
