Try this then... This is how I always make crumble, and will be putting the recipe in the apple guide / cook book that I'm currently writing for the parish magazine / community orchard.

Mushrooms, onions chopped tomatoes, sliced sausage with a light mix of spices and worcestershire sauce....... served with noodles.
Very tasty.

@Reynard That's similar to my method. It just doesn’t seem to work. Possibly having warm hands might be part of the problem. That's not good for pastry either, is it.

You could always use a food processor / mini chopper if you have one. You have to pulse it though, so that it doesn't get hot.

Crumble is just a time lapsed laxative.
There's a 1% rule. 1% of the crumble I have to eat to be polite are bearable.
The rest guarantee me 24 hours of discomfort.
That can only be relieved by a decent desert wine. The British do not seem to have heard of this.

Waitrose is not in this universe. Also they've got someone new in the press department, or whatever they call it these days
The JL market report just might not be quite as bright as those on the inside hoped they could sell to the outside
