Yeah, I love fishcakes. Proper ones, not the odd sort you get round here sometimes, that are fish layered with potato and battered...

That's done it! I'm shopping tomorrow, and I'm going to have to buy some fishfingers....

They're a bit of a treat. Left to my own devices, I could probably eat a few hundred...

What's your fishfinger recipe Arch.

I love them - and consider them one of the shamefully neglected food groups.

I start by buying loads of them and a whacking great loaf.

Then (in a Gordon Ramsay style) Grill. Ketchup. Make the biggest sandwich possible. Job done.

Of course the real skill for the fishfinger lover is judging the cooking time from frozen. Underdone and they're not cooked in the middle / overdone and they're burnt.

I'm not a regular - but a binge fishfinger-eater. I suddenly see Captain Birdseye winking at me as I pass the freezer in a shop looking for organic tofu and think - oh all right, you win.

I like them best with mash and baked beans, but a sandwich is good...

More important to me is how I eat them - I deconstruct them - peel the crumb away, eat the middle, then eat the crispy outside. But binging is definately my style too...

I didn't get any in the end - my basket was starting to bend under the weight of my shopping, so I didn't detour down the frozen aisle - also, I'd got some reduced stuff that will fill the icebox. Next time.

Your kids are right, something's just do not go together, its an all in your mind thing. I love cheese and I love cauliflower, but if anyone tries serving it or cooking it for me both together, they get told exactly where they can stuff it and its the place where it would eventually end up if it was eaten, and one day when your kids grow up, they too will tell you where to stuff your fishcakes when they get the courage to do so but until then they will probably be polite and eat them.

Put some fish, kaffir lime leaves and chillies in a blender...then fry small ones being careful not to burn them or flip them too soon. Server with some sweet chilli dipping sauce with crushed peanuts on top of it. YUMMMY!

Traditional Yorkshire fishcakes Arch... non of that namby pamby mashed up rubbish in breadcrumbs!

Proof that Yorkshire gets stuff wrong sometimes....

I've got a fishcake for dinner - well, it was in the fish section, reduced. It's actually chicken and broccoli. Better go and put it in the Remoska.
