1.5 metres. That excellent 'poster' could have been improved by showing the width of the car (say about 1.8m).
Does the population generally think in metric or imperial (for distances), I wonder? "Leave 5 feet". Road signs for 'v narrow' road uses the >6'6"< sign do they not?

I have to work it out in feet to make any sense. Old git that I am.

Metric has more authority. Used by scientists, officials and people who know what they are doing. The old folky stuff is for old folks only.
More 'authority' but less utility in the general population, perhaps. But we (the UK) have deliberately retained the use of imperial units for the road. Except AudaxUK cyclists who need to homologise (?) with ACP.
