Too much OP bashing?

Seems to me those who start threads have been subject to rather too much criticism recently.

My parking ticket thread is a good example.

In an attempt to head off the inevitable, I deliberately asked for the 'experience of others' in relation to private parking tickets.

What I got - among the genuine replies - was criticism of my diet, working practice, use of a motor car and conduct in general.

Nor am I alone, I've noticed @Crandoggler and @Accy cyclist get similar treatment.

The author of a thread should expect to be questioned, and occasionally criticised.

But the questions and criticism need to be relevant, reasonable, and constructive, not just personal sniping.

New threads and subsequent posts are what makes this forum - it hasn't got a lot else to offer.

It would be a pity if potential thread starters were put off by the thought of too many negative replies.

Feel free to agree or disagree.

the op is talking utter sh!te, its time he started eating a healthy diet , took a good long look at his working practices, and learned to park properly, ;)

I stopped posting on other forums because of this reason, hopefully this one isn't going the same way.
I have noticed recently though people don't seem to be able to post an opinion or experience without being shot down in a personal and unnecessary way. There is always going to differences of opinion and hopefully educated and informed debates can be drawn from this.
Its a shame some people just feel the need to attack others from the safety of their computer.

Hmmm. sometimes some of the SP&C lot bring their venom to other threads and forget where they are or how to behave.

Ignore is your friend.
I have observed that threads get dumped in SP&C because café peeps can't play nice.

There are those who spend too much time on here, measuring their worth by how much they post and who they can get one over on.

The ability to let someone express an idea without feeling the need to squash it for your own gratification shows a certain mastery of social skills

There recently has been SP&C type threads in Cafe. Cafe was for all the nonsense and humour, but, not now (up to a point).

Don't flatter yourselves over at SP&C

Something to keep in mind though...it is, much more often than not...nothing personal and an op that gets a bashing one second can receive a like from the basher seconds later on another thread.

Often it's the point that gets bashed, not the OP.

I suspect that some members form lifetime opinions based upon a single post but I also think this is very rare.

It is the Internet and we are all...mostly anonymous, so you can expect some frank exchanges that would never happen in "real" life.

Don't take it personally, we all met last night and decided that you were all stand up folk

That may be YOUR interpretation, but cafe is, by and large, irreverent, schoolboy (dare I say, childish) comments and 'wit' (again, that is open to interpretation) but snidey posters (and we know who they are, it doesn't need spelling out) like to disrupt, insult and belittle with no other aim than to cause offence, in MY opinion.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
