Do you have details of the car?

If so take it to the Police and explain that it was removed when the car hit you.

I stand to be corrected, but this is a "Hit and Run" as he is required to stop if a vehicle is damaged or someone is injured...... you must have some bruising or stiffness.

OH's the same - although its his car, I use it quite often, but make myself scarce when theres talk of repair bills!
Only fair - he uses my bikes sometimes, I never ask him to fork out for repairs on them!
Sounds fair. Technically he never puts fuel in your bikes either

If you are involved in an accident on a road or public place and someone else is injured, damage is caused to another vehicle or property or an animal is injured; then you must provide your name, address, registration details and the owner’s details, to anyone who has reason to require it, usually the owner of the vehicle/property or injured party. If you do not provide those details to any such person then you must report the accident to the police station as soon as is reasonably practicable and in any event, within 24 hours

Ha ha! I do put fuel in (sometimes).

In my defense, I want to go completely car free but he doesn't. The odd occasions I do use the car, I'd very happily use a taxi instead, which is obviously silly when theres a car on the drive.

Thanks.

I knew it was something along those lines.

I have done this once when left hooked on the Street Machine

Left a big scratch down the rear quarter of an Audi, so nipped into the Police station, gave my details and those of a witness. They visited the driver.

If you take their wing mirror off, they won't be able to use it, whether they like it or not. Seems like doing that will only make their driving worse.

He will pay for it anyway. Wing mirrors cost about £20 so it wouldnt be much of a burden. Bearing that cost in mind, I am amazed at how many cars still dont have mirrors or have broken ones. It takes 5 mins to order online and fit them yourself.

Depends upon the car - my last ones cost £600....each....

I don't think this was a deliberate de-mirroring.

I know that - I was talking about the people who feel that de-mirroring is a good punishment for bad driving.

When was the last time you owned a car? 1972? The last wing mirror I had knocked off was going to cost me about £200 to replace.

Yes. The responsibility to exchange details is both parties responsibility.
OP - you ought to report this to the police, as it's your legal obligation.

Question:

If someone pulls in front of you and brakes and you knock their wing mirror off...

Like this:

... and they ask for your insurance details, do you have to provide them with your name, address, etc?

Yes. The responsibility to exchange details is both parties responsibility.
OP - you ought to report this to the police, as it's your legal obligation.

- and get hold of legal advice (either the free kind with your CTC membership, or one of the ambulance chasers). Pass anything from the drivers insurance on to them, that'll likely stop any claim against you dead in its tracks. .

I'd love to know where to get one for £20, It would save me giving Mazda £270 for one, the having to strip the door to fit it.
