Hasn't TG always been about grown men acting like kids? Isn't that the whole point?
I agree , i used to like top gear for the same reasons, they might have been bigoted and annoying but had an on screen chemistry , now the show is shouty chris and a guy constantly talking about how different the uk is .The actual car bits were pretty similarly shot .Just finished watching it on iplayer. It was a bit meh...
Since Clarkson took over Top Gear wasn't a show about cars, it just had cars as a theme. The whole reason for watching was the interaction between Clarkson, May and Hammond. Maybe Evans and Le Blanc will get there after a while but they don't have it right now. Things could possibly be improved by bringing Sabine Schmidt into a more active role but who knows.
I realise that Top Gear was always scripted but it did seem that in the studio sections the presenters were obviously reading prepared lines rather than the illusion of ad lib that the previous presenters had. As Matt Le Blanc is a professional actor I reckon he could have faked it a bit better.

When it started and the usual credits roll up, I could not help but think that it was still written for Clarkson.
2 minutes later when Mr Evans actually turned up, I turned it off. It was painful to watch him, about as funny as having your finger nails removed.
Zoe Ball, standing in for Ken Bruce on BBC radio 2, thought it was wonderful, apparently. I guess that wasn't scripted by her BBC bosses either then?
I thought it was OK. Le Blanc was quite good, Evans was just bleedin' awful and is better suited to late night talk TV or radio. It had the usual high production standards and it was to the usual format. I don't think I was really expecting anything different and I expect we'll see the presenter interaction develop or change. I remain vaguely entertained by it if I catch it but wouldn't go out my way to see it.
