......must admit i rather mistrust the new generation of lighter weight drybags - have doubts about how well they will stand up to releated bungying (and their sharp edges) and being tossed on the floor multiple times. Traditional ortlieb material seems tough and easy to clean.
Totally agree about not trusting the lighter weight dry bags. I got one to keep keys dry whilst white water kayaking. Good for a few months then started leaking. Of course if going out in very wet conditions is avoided, am sure would be ok.
Thanks for the feedback clockwork - i rather expect drybags to keep my stuff dry when it is "very wet" traditional ortliebs it is then. Cheaper than SOME of the lighter bags as well.
I got one of these Ortlieb trunk bags last year. Capacity is 8 litres and it is properly waterproof. Only downside is that if you want to fit panniers as well you need the adapter rack too which provides another rail because this bag blocks your rack's rails.
Hey all, I'd completely forgotten about this post.
I bought a top bag from one of our fellow CC'ers, and it's amazing. Works great, and although I never used it for my Tiverton attempt, it's still a great bag to use for commuting, especially as it keeps my shirt relatively crease-free.
