Now confirmed by Race Radio, sorry lads.

Boo!

But also Tim Wellens popping out of the bunch in an apparently silly attack to nick the polka dots is kind of fun regardless. It's better than pretty much anything else we've been given to work with so far (even the intermediate sprint was a bit of a downer)

Really Visma should have sent a rider up to Wellens there. Just for the shoots and giggles.

Can't quite believe absolutely nobody wanted to challenge for it

I can’t wait for this stage to be over.
It’s the sort of pointless stage that ends with a crash taking out a GC contender.

It's not really a good look for the race - "Excuse me guys, do you mind awfully if I just ride up the road to get the KOM point as the best rider in the world doesn't want to wear the jersey tomorrow. I promise I'll stop and wait afterwards" He now ends up on a very short list of riders who have held the KOM jersey in all 3 GTs.

On the Philipsen crash, it was quite ironic how shortly beforehand there had been a discussion amongst the commentators about how he has acquired a bad rep for being a dangerous rider and then he gets taken down in something that was no fault of his at all.

Isn't the thing with sprint crashes that it's usually/often not the guy that caused them that ends up on the ground?
