I noticed this a few stages ago. My feeling is that it is part of the design of the kit; if you look at the rest of the UAD team, they all have those dark stripes. It is supremely annoying.

Was it a UAE jersey or the official supplied pokadot skinsuit though?

Earlier in the Breakaway - just a quick shot of him passing the camera but nothing on his body or shorts so I suspect Shadow is right about the design.
