Speaking of incompatible combinations. my frst winter kit comprised a pair of Shimano tights and a Campag long sleeved top. It was wrong on so many levels, fortunately it was before the age of digital cameras and there's no evidence (I would plead that I was being ironic if there was). To be fair my first race bike also had a mix of Shimano and Campag components though.

Back in the day you could be riding with Campag derailleur and Shimano shifters. Standardisation FTW imo
