Pace yourself, don't go all guns blazing at the start and blow up at 25 miles.

I've never 'hit the wall' as you put it, run out of puff? Definately! Drink plenty (2 bidons) and eat properly (good breakfast beforehand, a couple of flapjacks or similar to take with) and you should be fine.

Depends if you've remembered to eat as you go. The body stores enough for about 2 hours vigorous exercise. If you'll be riding longer, you need to top it up. A piece of food every hour is a decent starting point .

Yeah, that kind of thing. I'll make my own flapjack, use gels (not too many though), other oat bars.

Soreen malt loaf is also really good for energy.

I make my own too, or use chewy oaty bars that go in the kids lunchboxes if I can't be bothered. IMO, there's a lot of smoke and BS surrounding sports 'nutrition'. I'm sure for competitive types they might make a difference but for the rest of us, we'd be just as satisfied with standard fare or our own efforts.

My 4 year old daughter gets dibbs on all cereal bars!

I don't often use gels as I'm too tight to buy them  I grab a few when they're going as freebies. My preference now is a few slices of malt loaf on a long ride. One slice per hour does the job.

Pies (mini pork ones) are good too as many of the long-distance riders on here will agree. :hungry: ( I don't like sweet stuff much)
Main thing is to start off easy and get the legs warmed up first.

Any advice for tackling and hopefully completing my second 60 miler @ the Tour de Tendring on Sunday?
isn't it 60 miles and fairly flat? Depends how fit you are really. Some could do that without breakfast and without stopping and going flat out from the gun and not even break a sweat; others might collapse from exhaustion after 5 miles and need to call 999

I wouldn't have asked if I knew the route would I?
