Got some decent shots with my proper camera on the first ascent I think. I then got a spot 175m from the line and went to take shots only to discover I’d somehow switched on a timer and I couldn’t see the screen to turn it off. Luckily I was on the corner of the road where they came back down to the buses.

First decent finish of this race

They were in bits first time up the climb, I was surprised it all came back together. So much better than anything else on this year’s route. Tomorrow is disappointing, Caerphilly Mountain will break things up if they race it but it’s too short and far from the finish I reckon. It looks like it will be a headwind into Cardiff from the top too.

The approach to today's second KoM at Devauden. The top of the was actually reached half a kilometre before the designated finish line, and as can clearly be seen the approach is on a descent:

It seems an odd decision, but there's no doubt that the village green provided an excellent viewing site. The organisers to have a lot of things to try and get right. I picked a spot roughly behind the peroxide hair where I could kneel at the edge of the road (not in homage to G or anyone else).

The breakaway. No surprise to see the see the KoM leader secure maximum points:

And the head of the peloton, with the race leader tucked behind all the members of his team. Why does anyone watch this stuff?

Further down the peloton, the faces begin to look a little more relaxed, but the huge sunglasses nearly everyone is wearing makes it very hard to put names to faces even with the help of procyclingstats. A few race numbers are visible, and I do recognise a few of them!

And that was almost it. No real stragglers, just a few empty bladders needing to catch up:

A pleasant, relaxed, sociable atmosphere. I'm glad I made the effort

We’ve had thunderstorms and heavy rain so far this morning. Hopefully it will ease off as I’m thinking of dragging myself over to Caerphilly. The atmosphere should be great over there. The last time I watched there Luke Rowe’s brother was handing out Welsh cakes to the riders and there was a proper party atmosphere, should be even better today.

I wish I had a pound for every comment I’ve seen on social media about the race in this area along the lines of “will they get fines for going over 20mph”. It was funny the first time and when numerous people make the same comment on a single post, often just below another one it just makes them look even more stupid. On the plus side there’s been far more positive than negative comments.

Didn’t the Junior Tour of Wales have to re-route due to the 20mph speed limit?
Nothing to do with the bikes, but the car convoy.

Yup, the weather has been horrible, here on the Northern end of today’s route. It’s eased a bit atm, but it is so dark.
