Hi there everyone!
Bare with me - the last bike I rode was what my parents bought me back in middleschool - a Giant mountain bike w/ no suspension.
A good group of friends have decided that we're going to take a crack at a good stretch of the Alaska highway this coming summer - 40-60 ish miles a day, selected stops, Liard hotsprings to Whitehorse. While we're all fit and active and while we all plan to do some more specific training, none of us are really bike folk.
At any rate, I understand that different setups will come with compromises, but I'm hoping to find some suggestions for a touring bike with mountain biking capabilities, or a mountain bike that's more conveniently set up for touring capabilities. Cross/Hybrid setups?
Any thoughts, suggestions, or dirty jokes? Budget - hopefully completely outfitted for <2k US.
