Touring wheel rims ?

Hi - I’m looking to build a set of 700 wheels for 4 pannier camp touring , having had a few spoke issues last time would appreciate any advice on tough rim/spoke options ? - plan on using rear 9 ring and SON front generator , Thanks

Spa built me some H Son Plus with a Son hub dynamo for my Audax bike. Posh and tough. Alex Adveture on my tourer. Cheaper and tough.

I've been on the hunt for good touring rims which won't break the bank. Finally settled on a pair of Halo White Line rims. Double wall, eyletted, no stupid brake wear indicator, normal (as opposed to deep section/aero) and available in a choice of colours and spoke counts. I built my daughters bike up with Rigida Sputniks, which are a bit nicer - mainly because they come in 559

 

[Spoked Wheels]

Rigida Sputniks are your traditional touring rims but for disc brakes there are some interesting rims that would not have been considered for touring before.

For a long time I toyed with the idea of building a bike that could do it all, grable rides, touring, etc. so finally, last year I went for it and my choice of rims was.... H Plus Son Archetype, I've built so many wheels with these rims and my own experience with the Archetype is fantastic, I wanted to build wheels that I could ride with 28mm tyres and also 50mm tyres for touring and off road. So 36 spokes plus rotors and still lighter than going the Rigida Sputniks route and I know I can load the bike as much I'm able to push and the wheels will handle the load just fine.

DRC ST19 are cheap, good and build up easily but they suffer from the irritating problem that some rims with double sockets have, viz. the sockets corrode slightly and then creak whenever you ride out of the saddle. A drop of oil on each one shuts them up for a long time but the noise will come back.

I decided Sputniks were overkill, so I've toured on Rigida Snypers (now discontinued it seems), Exal LX17, and also Mavic A319s. All three make good rims for rim braked tourers IMHO. They also all share very similar ERDs, so I could reuse the spokes when I replaced worn rims.

The 17mm internal width ones (ie, not the A319ss) allowed for 25mm tyres for audaxing, but with wider fast tyres around now that's less of an issue.

Have you actually contacted them to sort this out?
In agreement with folks above, I'd go for 36 hole Sputnik wheels from Spa.
Excellent shop.
I did order a set from them a while ago and they omitted the spacer from the order.
A mistake I assumed rather than devilish fraud.
I phoned them and they sorted it.

Mistakes happen. Hardly warants being called ‘useless’ or ‘stupid’

I would call, yes. They can be a bit slow responding to mails, tightly staffed.

As for useless for making a mistake, you have surely made the odd mistake?
