No, I wouldn't consider it, sounds more like an endurance test than an enjoyable holiday. The stress of trying to find accommodation each evening would be too much, and if you were to book ahead you would have to make a plan and stick to it which negates the freedom of touring.
If you don't like planning in advance and don't like not planning in advance, what alternative does that leave?

Virtual touring.

I dont think you need to plan all the time. With a mobile phone; booking a room a couple of hours away at any time of the day is a doddle.

In fact not planning makes a really good holiday as you have no deadlines to meet.

I've often toured with no accommodation planned. Only once ever had to stretch the mileage seriously, somewhere in the middle of Italy. Saddlebag or small panniers are fine.
My worst experience was the xenophobic Yorkshireman running a chambre d'hote in France – amusing in hindsight.

Yes - and the link to our most recent adventure is below.

You can tour without booking ahead, but it's a question of when and where. Scotland in June is ideal.

FTFY. I've deleted the superfluous word.... as Yorkshiremen don't like anyone who isn't from the benighted county. ^_^

To be fair, I have many fine Yorkshire friends, but this fellow was like Geoffrey Boycott but without the humour and intelligence.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Somehow I'd missed that until now. Thank you.

Oh, and touring without booking ahead - it depends on where you're going and what your tolerance is for staying in chain hotels on the ringroad. When we did our big ride through France (link below) we realised that we'd have to book ahead to stay on the route we wanted, because in deepest darkest France there are relatively few hotels. Plenty in the cities and large towns, and particularly plenty of Campaniles and Ibises - but they tend to be built on cheap land convenient for cars. Which often isn't so convenient for a cyclist.

oooh! I forgot. Festivals and public holidays. Look in to these if you're not booking ahead. They will mess you up.

Was there something to say that they even don't like other Yorkshireman?
I think Cameron once got in to difficulty in saying that?
Boycott could fall out with himself, let alone anyone else be they from Yorkshire or elsewhere.

But on the whole we're the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.

I agree. I used to live in Pontefract for 3 years and my son was born in west Yorkshire. We still go there regularly to see our friends. One day, I may go back to live in Yorkshire.
