A proper aerial and not a coat hanger?

I was posh, my Capri had an electric aerial, only worked for a few months though. 😂

I seem to remember people got very excited at upgrading a manual car aerial to an electric one.

I had a car with an electric aerial - I loved it - really cool!

Only thing is that electric aerials are generally vertical
which means there is a horizontal circular hole where the aerial goes in and out and after a while some water gets in
into where the electrics are

and then it goes wrong and you have no aerial - and hence no radio

got it changed once but after that we didn;t bother - by ex didn;t use the radio anyway and I used the other car to get to work (which had an old fashioned one sticking up from the side of the front window

I did love the sight of the aerial slowly rising when I switched the radio on first thing in the morning!!!

The 70s/80s cars often had the aerial on a front wing. Wheel arches weren't usually lined, so the wheel would fling up all sorts of mud or water at the aerial connections and motor. There didn't seem reliable.
Explains why wings used to rust quickly too. Terrible design.

Did you wrap the workings of the aerial in a plastic bag to keep them dry?

Didn't make any difference though. 😂

Stellantis want £10.99 a month for 'connected features' on the van.
That's way, way too much considering I use it once every two weeks, on average.

So no traffic information etc.. for me

putting it another way - £131.98 a year for "connected feature"

surprised they don;t make it £2.53 a week - so it sounds less than the cost of a cup of coffee
when you can get the information in a phone

I bought a car that had 5 years of free map updates for the satnav. After 4 years the manufacturer discontinued the model used in my car, moving to another brand, and immediately stopped all map updates for what it now sees as a legacy model.

In this age of sustainability there should be a mandatory minimum support period for electronic devices.

Especially if it is integrated into something like a car
If they had a engine management system that stopped working after 5 years they would never seel a car
but somehow they get away with having an integrated SatNav and having it go out of date

It you could replace a "chip" and change/upgrade it then that would be OK
but no - you can't - you just end up with a system that the car thinks is part of its main systems - that now doesn;t work!
