Tracing someones address....is there a safe/simple/free way to do it?

Situation is.....its our 50th Wedding anniversary in July.
I would like to trace the guy who was my best man.
For a number of reasons we lost contact 20 years ago. He devorced accramoniously so I cant get help there.
I know the town he lives in but no more than that.
I know his age and where he was born etc..
When I google it I get sites saying they can help......if I sign up (why do I not trust them).
Tried facebook.....no luck.
Any suggestions ??

The town library where he lives will have a copy of the electoral roll. Ring them and ask for a copy of the page with his name on it - there might be a few with his initial. Then armed with an address try the phone directory. This is more or less what most of the ‘we’ll find it for you for a price’ web sites do.
Worst scenario is if they won’t help you’ll have to visit his library yourself.

How could I use that if I have no idea of his address or phone number?

I found an old friends address by entering his name and town he lived in into Google, it came up with a planning application he had submitted to the local council complete with address,
of course your friend may not feature in any such searches.

You'd have to narrow it down further than that. I'd say an average of 100,000 names per constituency.

If he has a profession try LinkedIn.
The information on 192.com comes from the electoral register so if you've already looked and don't think he is there it may be that he has opted for his name to not be available or he has moved on.

192 is using out of date information. Three current addresses for a someone who died over two years ago.
You've given the easiest way of doing it though.
