Oh and on the trade in front - have you decided what road bike you may want...I expect the best thing to do would be to go to a few bike shops and actually ask them if they'll do a trade in and how much for...all we can do is speculate not knowing where you are or which shops you can access. I don't think my LBS's do trade in, but then I have never actually asked ;)

Where are you based and what size is it? If you're unsure of the size, how tall are you?

I'm in Gloucester until September when I move to Cardiff, so I could potentially ask shops for trade ins at both places?

But that's a good idea about changing the tyres and adding bar ends...I have a tight budget so I was thinking of getting a triban 3, giant defy 4 (second hand) or carrera zelos?

The sirrus is medium size.

How do I sell it on here, what tag do I go to?

Classifieds forum, but you need about 15 posts to see it

I doubt very much that Decathlon do trade in, nor Halfords, nor a second hand seller? You'll need an independent LBS to have any chance but you'll be looking at a more expensive roadbike more likely or a not very good one

What do you expect the roadbike to give you? A Sirrus is a fast hybrid and a decent one, so you aren't going to see a massive difference in an entry level roadbike IMO

If you do buy a new bike and are going to leave it anywhere, spend money on decent D Locks and insurance

I sold mine on gumtree it was faster than ebay and the forum as it only took a few days.

I was worried when the lad asked for a test ride but all worked out fine for me.

I found a local shop that do trade ins and will give me a quote after looking the bike.

I'm not unfit and I find my hybrid to be a slow ride and quite tiring after a long distance. Would it cheaper to make some modifications on my current bike to make it faster and keep saving for a road bike?

I already do have insurance and a decent D lock

Put narrower tyres on it and see how you go. Ask the shop if it'll take 23mm. You can get the good Vittoria Rubinos for £11-12 each

Have you test ridden a road bike to see if you do feel any benefit. Evans are good for test rides, just need a CC and some ID

Hi,
Making some modifications to the Sirrus may well be a good idea. I owned one of those once with a 61cm frame. It wasn't a bad bike and I liked the more upright geometry. As I was only riding on roads and hardly ever on trails, I did a modification by putting some drop bars onto it. I had planned to change the brake levers to STI type but in the end I just used the existing setup.

It was running 28mm tyres which were comfortable and I just increased the tyre pressures for road - only use. I rode it like this for quite a while and realy enjoyed it. When I made the change to a full road bike I listed it on ebay (or perhaps gumtree) and offered the buyer the opportunity to have me convert it back before he picked it up but he specifically wanted it as it was.

Worth a thought I'd say. I've uploaded a photo of what it looked like.

Not wishing to be rude but are you ringing with the brakes on or something? The Sirrus is basically a road bike with flat bars. The ones I have seen ridden have all been light fast and very responsive. I am currently looking for one myself (XL).

Just a bit of an update on this...

Here is an image of a Sirrus that I'm currently converting. I've gone beyond what I did last time and this one has Shimano 105, A SRAM Chainset, Better (lighter) wheels and overall I have dropped about 2kg on it's original weight.

Very nice, and I presume you will still be able to fit full mudguards if you wanted?

Thank you for your comment!

Yes there is still sufficient clearance for full mudguards although I do quite like the way that it looks without ;-)
