Just tuned in to find that Allan Simonsen has succumbed to his injuries, following his crash in the 14th minute of the Le Mans 24 hour race. I'm shocked, because the crash didn't seem *that* bad when I saw it earlier.

I used to follow motorsport very closely, and I've seen Simonsen in action a few times. It is always terrible when someone loses their life whilst competing at sport.

RIP

Nothing mentioned on the BBC that I can see about this, yet a horse having a heart attack at Ascort made the news

More folk are interested in horse racing than 24hr car racing?

I bet that a lot more folk can name UK jockeys than can name UK Le Mans drivers.

I'm not unsympathetic but for the average person, Le Mans is in the backwaters of sporting events.
