Decided to go for it and got a Carry Freedom trailer for the Brompton. Got the last one in stock from ChainReaction. A box duly arrived with a collection of bits including a lollipop hitch. Instructions included were for the earlier pre 2010 hitch. Bike connection for the lollipop hitch needs 4mm of spare axle but Bromptom only has 3mm spare. Reading up on this trailer there was no mention that I found to the 4mm requirement. The earlier hitch suitable for the Brompton costs just over 50 euros. Missing from the package also was the safety lanyard and side protector plates. My email collection is getting red hot with rage.
Anyone thinking of getting a trailer beware and make sure you do your homework thoroughly.
I think they just gathered up all the leftover bits and shoved them in a box.
