Was a warden at the local scout campsite for 15 years. All manner of stoves were used. It's where I saw the remains of a gas cartridge that exploded. They lost a tent as well, but no injuries other than to their pride.

Went to Bispham Hall a couple of times in my scouting days. We used to build open fires and ovens using biscuit tins covered with soil.

I have photos of my uncle making a brew that way beside his tank in the Western Desert, well there was no problem finding sand to use

Can’t beat cooking on an altar fire, especially a full breakfast on Sunday morning, worth putting up with the little beggars when they bring you a fry up they’ve cooked themselves
