I have many hours of video camcorder cassette tapes from the last 14 years but the machine itself wont play them now. It keeps ejecting the cassettes,it takes ages to charge up then the charge only lasts about 20 minutes. I want to transfer the images on the 8mm tapes to a disk but it's not possible due to the reasons i've mentioned. I've looked at some "good as new" old 8mm camcorders on E Bay etc but i was wondering about sending them off somewhere to be professionally transferred on to a disk. Has anyone else on here done this,if so how much does it cost and what's the quality like?

I`ve got one that works, the batteries are long knackered but it works ok from the mains and would allow you to do the transfers that you need. Any good?

..... that will take you half way there - you will need some means of convering thevideo signal in order to digitise it and write to a DVD.

there are usb gizmos on ebay that will do this for less than a fiver - (i have on but not used it yet).

something like this:
