Just got a new phone & I'm looking to transfer all my stuff onto it. I was going to use Motorola Migrate, which I've used before, and which has always proved a quick and painless experience. Unfortunately it's turned out that it's obsolete, and doesn't work with new editions of Android.

I've done a bit of googling around, and Phone Transfer seems to be a popular choice, but I wondered if anyone out there had any experience with it or alternatives. Any hot tips/avoid at all costs much appreciated.

If both are android, so long as your contacts etc are synced to the google account then they will update and your apps will re-load on the new phone once you log in during set up. If you have stuff on the phone and SD card, then you might want it all on the SD and just swap over.

I've used samsung smart switch, very easy to use.
That sounds a lot like the old Motorola Migrate, but I'm guessing it only works with Samsung phones. I should have specified: I'm looking to go HTC One > Motorola Pure X. (I will try the google + SD if I don't find any alternative, but I do like the programs, if I can find one. I find them a lot quicker/more intuitive/easier.)

I've just switched from a HTC phone to my new Motorola G5 and I've just done exactly what Fossyant described. I'd copied all my contacts to my SIM card before I took it out of my old HTC. Then when I signed in to Google on the Motorola, it was then a simple matter of going to the play store and down loading all my apps. Then I imported my contacts from the SIM card and I was ready to go.

I always back up my photos to my home network, so I've no need to use Googles cloud based services, but if I had, then my photos would also have followed me across. It's all relatively painless.

I've just done Sony to Moto. I followed the prompts once they were on the same wireless network. No apps required.

I went Sony to Samsung but pretty sure it worked with just about anything, check the app for details. It brings up a list of stuff to transfer, tick what you want and away you go.

That's more complicated. If you use a google account and know your contacts are saved there, then everything comes over as you log in on a new phone - no need to download the apps as they should be synced to your google account. If you don't have stuff synced, then it's like what you did chriswoody.

On my new phone, I used the Samsung smart switch as it involves even less steps, but it's handy if your contacts are phone based or on the sim. My contacts are on google and the phone, not on the sim.

Step 1. Flush your over-priced, under-performing apple iphone down the khazi.
Step 2. Continue with alternative product.
I'd love to, really.

I love my windows phone and it runs some apps better than the apple versions.

When the apps exist.

That's my problem. I cant get a windows Santander cycle app, tescos/shell/esso/sainsbury card app, strava, any decent Insta or even a workable facebook app. linked in is totally useless and I cant join a group chat with pals or family without reverting to whatsapp...and eating data.

I give in Apple...im all yours.
