How was the section out of Glossop? I was on my road bike that morning in the same area and it was foggy, raining and a fair easterly wind. I was thinking of you struggling on the bridleway over the tops when you leave the Longdendale Trail.
Hi nickyboy it was so bad not very well signposted either we had to walk along the top of the road in that weather it was so dangerous. The scariest bit was the one from selby to hornsea it was the last 10 miles we arrived in the pitch black into the wooded bit i was so frightened. Certainly wouldnt recommend doing it in the dark my husbands light had ran out of charge so we were only using mine . it was a very good experience looking for different routes next year .

DCLane

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
It's on my list for 2015 - having failed to ride it in 2012 and this year.

I'd be looking at a 2-day ride but knowing about the Hornsea accommodation is helpful - thanks.

You should have put a shout out on here, I could have brought a spare light, or assisted with my dynamo light to brighten the way. Glad you both made it though, well done! Here's to next years trip(s)

I'm just talking to my friend who's wanting to do this with me, and think we'll be doing it in tents, however I'm tempted to just do B&B's now.
Least then we don't need to cook etc, just rock up, find somewhere local for good food and drink, crash out in the B&B and get up, eat and pedal off

I also want to re-do Ilfracombe to Plymouth (C2C), as couldn't finish it last year due to a bad knee, but this year have two new bikes and have hopefully strengthened my knee.

I would say it is much easier with a b&b hornsea there is a lovely place called knights and really lovely food reasonable, and then we went to whetherspoons in glossop and selby the lady does you a meal. I was looking at the plymouth trail the other day ..

If you do come down to Plym, give me a shout, but personally I found Ilfracombe to Plymouth was great, until I hit Okehampton, which is where my knee started having problems.

Thank you for the heads up, may save me buying a tent and sleeping bag for now, but I know with Winter the prices of tents and bags will come down, so will see what happens. Spent enough money this past few weeks on bike bits, and have yet to pay the major load off as buying my N+1 this weekend

Look forward to reading more of your touring stories, and can't wait to do some touring myself.

Did it with a few mates in 2013, however from Hornsea to Southport. Travelled light , stayed in Hotels booked in advance .

Night 1 Premier Inn Goole
Night 2 Premier Inn Bansley( Tankersley I think , on retail park )
Night 3 Best of the lot - Inn keepers Lodge Stockport - highly recomend!

Doable at those stops in both directions I reckon
