'Trap bikes' planted across city

It is hoped the bikes will help trap thieves

Bicycles fitted with tracking devices are being "planted" in Brighton in an effort to reduce the number of bikes being stolen in the city. The miniature devices allow the "trap bikes" to be trailed and located if they are stolen and increase the chance of an arrest, Sussex Police said.

I hope the trap included a huge spike shot up through the saddle.

I am sure that could be arranged.

Just imagining a full suss MTB where the action of the rear suspension rapidly jacks a barbed spike up through the saddle. Must have a lock out key for the owner though.

It would be hard to booby trap bikes without putting road users at risk.

Far simpler to simply wheel out bicycle thieves and shoot them.

Or – if you catch one – simply d-lock them round the neck to the railings.

I am a believer, for some crimes to bring back the stocks...

Monday-Friday community service...
Saturday & Sunday at the stocks in the rain or sun...

But apparently its against their human rights..

Bah

The public's human rights should, and must over come the human right of the dodgy individual.

The Romans used to place bicycle thieves in a sack with three or four badgers, sew it up and throw it in the river. Not to cause drowning but the badgers would go berserk and rip the thief to shreds.

In Eliabethan times bicycle thieves were sprayed with WD40 and set on fire.

City of london police have a similar scheme using trap traffic lights, they put up fake traffic lights which appear to be green, but when you cross the stop line turn red. So far 45,768 fpn have been issued to cyclists using these. Inspector J. Obbsworth of the city of londen police declared himself 'well chuffed' with his new bit of kit. He had no comment on the apalling number of undected crimes on the city of london polices book.

I believe that Cromwell an the Puritans had the right ideas!

No single record of a case of bicycle theft in the whole of the Commonwealth period!
