I was hoping that the CCers could provide some advice and information to this Northern country mouse!

My daughter is venturing down to London on a Friday, attending an event at Ally Pally and coming home on Sunday. She arrives at Kings Cross bus station and is staying near to Ally Pally. She and her friends will be attending the show Saturday & Sunday, but will want to travel to go out to eat etc. We were wondering what would be the best way to finance her travel - Oyster, travel card or cash as she goes?

She's only 16 and a bit dippy, but she will be with other girls so won't be travelling alone! She has a student card so should be eligible for some concession.

Thank you, in advance

Barnet,
Get her to get an Oyster card from either underground ticket offices or one of the many newsagents/ shops that sell them. load it up with say £10. The fares are cheaper with an oyster than travelcards. I can't remember wich zone Ally Pally is in, but it is very near to Wood Green Underground, or Alexandra Palace Mainline Station on the line from Kings Cross. Here is a guide to the fares from TFL. Oyster cards, like travel cards are valid on buses, underground and most mainline trains within London.

Thanks for the speedy response - however she and her dad have been rootling around on-line and decided that a Travelcard would be better as travel is unlimited (rather than a pay-per trip on Oyster). 3 days worth of off-peak cards ordered!

thanks again!

The Oystercard only charges up to the daily cost of a travelcard however many journeys you do in one day.

Daily price capping
If you make lots of pay as you go journeys in one day we'll make sure you never pay more than the price of an equivalent Day Travelcard

This will of course include a sight-seeing trip to see the CycleChat Sunday Ride peloton assembling at Wellington Arch, early on a Sunday morning, before traipsing along to Buckingham Palace and thence to Ally Pally. (Dave's favourite - he might bring a trailer...)

Have a lovely trip babyBearPear!
