How much does it cost to Oldham?
Used to travel more or less continuously for the 'mothership' - all over the states europe and the far east. As pointed out it can put a strain on home relationships. Something always manages to go wrong whilst you're away- dog breaks its leg, Dishwasher explodes so on and so forth. Stressy. Still travel but far less and more scheduled. Thank god.

Good job it was lucrative. Young mans job.

Ireland, Austria, Wales, Scotland and even Dudley once.

It’s good if you go to the same place on a regular basis and get on well with the people there. As long as it does not interfere with your home life or health. I was lucky to be able to schedule the trips as required myself rather than driven purely by a strict business schedule. It was never stressful so I enjoyed it.

I've spent most of my working life on a ship, so pretty much anywhere in Europe with a coast, ditto South America. Odd places in Far East, Africa and Arabia. Montreal (aah Michelle, where are you now?) and Atlantic/Gulf Coast of USA.

My kids got in habit of asking me if I'd been to somewhere that came on the TV - often the answer being 'yes'. The next question was 'did you get drunk there?' - 'Yes'. Just part of keeping up Jolly Jacks reputation.

At the moment though, Scotland.

US a couple of times, various places. LA (farking cars), Chicago (Snow), Florida (farking cars, gave up trying to cross the road to get lunch and ate in the hotel). Canada, Morocco (Casablanca, multiple visits for one project, interesting place) (also farking cars, constant beeping), Malaysia (good food), Hungary (Snow- bad! stuck for 24 hours in car with three managers, farking cars), Austria, Germany, France a few times, Belgium, The Netherlands (the was the best place), Malta (farking cars)

Don't much like travelling for work though. Will generally bellyache about it and hope for a management travel ban when the numbers start looking dodgy three months into the year.

I remember stopping in the Crown Plaza in Casablanca about eighteen years ago, trying to cross the road was a nightmare.

I stood at the crossing for about five minutes before picking out someone next to me who looked like he knew what he was doing, then as soon as he went I just followed him.

I've done it quite a bit, the places visited would look like a veritable list of exotic locations but the truth was I never got further than either an offshore installation or a rig yard of some description. I did enjoy some aspects of it but no matter where the location or prestigious the client, I never lost sight off the prize which for me was cash. Some guys started to do it for nothing or next to nothing and I was out.

Rio was humid, fun and fabulous.

Lived in Geneva for a while which was...orderly. I didn't realise how it felt to be 'the one left behind' until my wife came out one weekend (we used to get flights home each weekend, so just reversed the tickets). It was quite a wrench when I saw her off at the departure gate, went back to an empty apartment and realised just how many times she'd done that for me.

Pretty much everywhere I've been on business, all over Europe and the major US cities, is a tourist destination and/or major city as the client that causes these trips is an international retailer. I did get stuck in the States by 9/11 though.

Was very fortunate with my job from when I was 40 yrs old. I was a divisional manager and used to work with all the reps. We had 20 of them in the UK & Ireland so I got see lots of places and enjoyed some good nights.
Then I looked after export of just one product and travelled throughout Europe.
Germany. I spent a week there every year for exhibitions. A different city each year.
Barcelona..........spent 3 days a year there. Fabulous place.
Israel. Spent a week there and travelled all of it.
Strasburg.....was there for Bastille day & night...really good.
Switzerland..........beautiful
Belgium.........two good customers that looked after me very well.
Biarritz. Spent a few days there every year for a while. Great customer. We became friends and had some good times.
Retired some 9 years now and TBH I don't miss it one bit.........but it was good while it lasted.

I went through a phase of having to go to that there London two or three times a month for work a couple of years ago. Fortunately that's finished now (hopefully).

And I once had to go to Basildon at short notice - that really is like a different country. ;)
