Travelling solo in a group holiday

Anyone have experience of joining an organised "group" holiday or tour as a solo traveller? Is it good value and did you enjoy being with the same people for 7+ days?

I've done it 5 times now, and enjoyed every time. I've even remained friends with a few of them afterwards.
My trips were groups of 20 with multiple groups within that. It doesn't take long to find those going at a similar pace and riding with them.

If like me the choice is go solo or don't go then I'd advise to go. I've got another one planned for 2026.

Probably depends on the individual.Some love being round others whilst some prefer more solo oriented travel. Some think paying more for others to organise everything good value whilst others find organising things themselves better value.

Just because I enjoy/prefer solo travel organising myself does not make that the best option for everybody. It all depends on your character, circumstances, etc.

Oh, for context given the above post I am perfectly happy travelling and cycling alone and I enjoy company so I can't lose either way.

My grandson aged 25/26 did (i think) 5 countries as part of an organised group. He went as a single person in the group.
It included Thailand, Cambodia etc.
He had a wonderful time and would do it again.

He has lots of friends and does socialise with them.

If it’s a cycling holiday the group will consist of many singles and couples. Not one big group plus you.

PS - Good value? That depends entirely on what you want out of it, and what you can afford. I think they are a very good use of my disposable income while my cycling friends disagree. This is why I go solo. They prefer Mallorca every bloody year. (I've been 8 times which I think is enough)

I did on the Glaudax cycling tour to Brittany this year. Most of the participants knew each other with a few like me who didn't. It was fine.

I've been on a few group trips (not alone but I'd certainly consider), almost always been a few singles, still very good friends with one of them.
Depending on where you go and with which companies, single supplements can be expensive.

Intrepid are very good, have a massive range of tours and their single supplements are reasonable (they do offer a sharing option, you'd get your own room with no supplement if no one else wants to share).

Obviously you need to be sort of person who wants to spend a lot of time with strangers 12+ hours a day and be happy to engage

I've gone solo on various large group trips and found it a great way to meet new people, also ridden in friend groups and solo with no problems. Personally if going abroad I'd prefer to be part of a group or with someone else I know.
