Trek 7.2/3 v Cannondale Quick 4/5 & a stupid question

I think I've narrowed my choice of hybrid down to these 2 unless anyone else wants to throw something else into the mix. I managed to have a go on the Trek and quite liked it. However I was unable to try out my size of the Cannondale - the bike shop only had a smaller size frame that had already been reserved and won't be getting stock for a couple of months but I was impressed by the bike looks wise !

My online research found this article which suggested that in this mid range all the bikes are pretty much the same
http://thesweethome.com/reviews/best-hybrid-commuter-bike/# although ended up plumping for the Trek. So is this correct and effectively its like the old Audi /BMW argument (to use a car analogy) in that both are pretty good it's down to the purchaser which they prefer ? or is the article a bit misleading ?

Oh and now the stupid question. I've seen around the forums that good deals can be had on last year's bike model to clear out for the new MY. So when do the bike manufacturers start their new year please or have I missed it

TIA

2015 models are coming in now and into September

Yes, the bikes are much of a muchness at a given price point - other than, IMO, Trek and Specialized which are more expensive - perhaps better frame and warranty, lower end components

It comes down to which fits you best and makes you smile (and has the least black paintwork ;) )

I think Trek can only be bought in store (unless they changed their rules) so depends if the OP is near a Cyclesurgery

However, I saw the same bike for the same price in Pearson's window so there may be a Trek promotion on

Evans have it too, less discount but they'll match CS

OP, 2015 is already out, so this is probably the changeover discount

If I were spending >£500 on a hybrid, I'd want a carbon fork as a minimum however, unlike the Trek

Can you please recommend something with a carbon fork at around that price point. It will definitley be a bricks and mortar purchase as I'm a total newbe and want advice on sizing, fitting etc

The Quick 4 has a carbon fork

Other possibles

Otherwise just go through one of the big online retailers options around that price point and look at the specs

Max budget? Look at ridgeback, maybe Jamis from Evans. Best avoid the big American brands unless a big discount

Oops forgot to add budget £500 ish. Can I take it from your reply I might do better spending less  Given I'm unlikely to get a carbon fork at that price perhaps I should consider something equivalent to a Trek 7.2 and save some cash. I'm located south of Norwich so couldn't find a ridgeback stockist close to me nor do I have a local Evans. Thanks for the advice its much appreciated

What shops can you access? Spend what you need to spend to get the right bike for you, fit, aesthetics, spec

I can access www.cyclesuk.com with a reasonable selection of brands. Streetlife who are a Specialized dealer and Pedal Revolution whose web site doesn't yet list brands. I can also access Cannondale near work in Ipswich but no stock till October and also Trek from another Ipswich shop. Dawes & Raleigh are easily available to me as well

following a bit more research if I extend the definition of Local to 15 miles as in LBS I can now access Specialized,Giant, Trek, Focus, Ridgeback, & Marin & possibly Cannondale so I must be able to find something I like out of that lot !!

Just a question of finding out who's got what in stock to get comparing with the minimum of travelling
