Picked this up today;going to be used as a light tourer come quaxing bike.

In good nick for it's age and rides really nicely; only downsides are some odd bits of rust and some 'orrible grip shifts, but nice True Temper US made frame.

So will swap the rack over from the other Trek which will now be converted in to a 'beater' and also the Randonneur tyres,oh and fit the Charge spoon saddle.

Will decide wether to keep it flat bar or convert it to drops:unsure:.Also may swap some drivetrain bits over from the other Trek as well.

Anyway,enough waffling here's some pics of it as is;

Will update wih any progress.

Nice paint job and it looks like it's in good shape.
Word of warning: I converted a similar Trek a couple of years ago to drop bars and narrower wheels/ tyres and it made it into the most uncomfortable bike ever. I can't ride it on our local roads at all, it's just too painful! Also the geometry is all wrong for drop bars, so I had to fit a really short stem to make it somewhat rideable.

Ah found some pics:
Before - used as commuter/ station bike
After - supposed to be a winter bike (it now has mudguards)/ NCN Wicken Fen commuter bike

I had a 700. I've just given mine to my son in law as a present. Solid bike. I fitted an alivio triple and rd, using the trigger shifters to replace grip shifts. Fitted an A Head converter and short stem. Rode really nice. Great do anything bikes.

Little bit of fettling this morning.

Cleaned the cassette, chain and rear mech.Also added the Charge saddle and fitted the rack.

Plus Vittoria Randonneurs swapped over from the other Trek.

And on today's utility ride to Waitrose;all good except not tightening the saddle bolt properly:rolleyes:,hence the saddle angle:wacko:.

Have found that it's 135 hub spacing so some modern wheels would fits will hold back on changing the grip shifts and just ride it; will see about maybe upgrading the drive train with new wheels at a later date.

Also undecided about the triple so could swap out the XT mech and FSA cranks off the other Trek and source some 9-speed XT trigger shifters.

Quick update.

New job means I will be able to get the hub upgraded to 9-speed and a set of shifters and front mech to go with the XT rear mech I have,plus will change the chainset to a twin rather than a triple.

Have also looked at some other bits like pedals, grips and possibly one of these:whistle:;

Will stick with the cantis though.

Oh and some nicer panniers.

Plan now hatched for this.

Will get free-hub changed to 9-speed(and wheel trued),fit Sora mechs taken off other halfs Liv and get some Sora trigger shifters.

Chainset will be the s/h FSA one which I've just taken off the other Trek with some fresh chainrings(in silver hopefully) and a new 9-speed cassette and chain.

Actually rode it today and even with the nasty grip shifters it was fun to ride.
