It is really hard to get a good cup of coffee anywhere.
I would agree, and the reason why I bought myself a very good machine and spent some time learning how to do it myself and where to get the best coffee from. The effort has payed off.

A London colleague went to Melbourne a few years ago, and came back and we were discussing food and cafes etc, and he suddenly said "is it possible I've never had a good cup of coffee before?" Melbourne's cafe culture came out of the italian post-war migration, so you'll be pleased to hear Starbucks failed there.

Nothing wrong with Mcdonalds coffee. But I wouldn't eat there.
I've not used a McCafe here, but have been forced to in oz (only thing opened land-side at the airport after 11pm), and not only was the coffee good, so were the macaroons! Mind you, suddenly every cafe in oz has macaroons, so I don't think that will happen here.

Coffee in cafes seems hit and miss to me.

I've had some lovely cups made from artisan beans and on a machine the size of a juke box.

I've also had disappointing cups made the same way.

McDonald's coffee - like their food - is nothing if not consistent.

Fine if you like it, which I do.

Metricks in Southampton is quite good, they do tea as well, 'cos Coffee is the 'so last year' choice, of the 'too pro to say hello' lot.
