Typical,

The weather get's better, so I decide to go out on my Red T3, so I go out of the drive and start up the long hill by my house. Less than a mile later, something wasn't feeling quite right, the angle of my feet on the pedal didn't feel right, so I assumed that the cleats on my SPDs had loosened. A couple of minutes later near the top of the hill, the pedal came off, still attached to my shoe!

After 10 mins trying to thread it back on, I realised that most of the threading had stripped inside the crank. Bu99er! So all I could do was freewheel down the hill back home!

So I now need a trip to Decathalon for them to do something about it, assuming that it's covered under the warranty, seeing as I've only ridden 20 miles so far, I wouldn't want to be the person to argue with me about it! Just Sod's law that it happened on such a nice weekend, but at least I wasn't far from home!

Bad luck - you can bodge a repair to most things but that's a bit of a showstopper!

I can't see how they could possibly argue about sorting the problem out. It just shouldn't happen, especially after only 20 miles of use!

I take it that the store fitted the pedals? If so, then as Colin says they should sort without quibble.

If the pedals were fitted when you got the bike - you will be fine. If you fitted the pedals - they are likely to say you fitted them incorrectly - and it is not unusual for inexperienced cyclists to put the pedals on incorrectly.

They won't argue with you. Great customer service usually. I rode a 57cm around for a day, before deciding i wanted a 60cm. Swapped it without hassle.
If you bought from the store, then they put the pedals on,so new cranks or new bike is the order of the day. Show you are unhappy and you might get a compensation gift such as a computer or light

Thanks for all the replies, I admit it does sound similar to the Wiggle thread.

Will drop into Decathlon on Monday to see what they say.

On a related note, how compatible are crank arms? Would it be easy to pick up a set and replace them if needed without swapping out the whole chainset?

I thought I'd update you guys. Just picked up my T3 back from Decathlon today after having its crank arm replaced under warranty, with no quibbles seeing as the bike has seen so little road time. ^_^

Took them a week to get the part in stock, but in the meantime they have also trued up the back wheel which the mechanic told me was really buckled, and if it was another couple of mm would have needed a new wheel. Although I don't really know how that happened, I can't recall hitting any big potholes!

But I'm happy, I have the bike back. ::wahhey:
