Hey everyone,

After much deliberation, I've managed to narrow my choice of bike down to two - the Triban 3 or the Triban 5. The 3 is of course £200 cheaper, and I just wanted your opinions on this, as the spare 200, assuming I get the T3 would be spent on upgrades/accessories.

So what would you say is the better investment?

Thanks everyone,
Oliver.

There isn't much difference between the T3 and the T5 apart from the Sora chainset and carbon seatstays. I say go for the 3 and get some nice wheels like I did.

I have a 3 and it is excellent. Even with the intro of the 5a, I still would have gotten the 3. It's reliable, light and fast.

Just a great road bike. I'm not sure I could justify the extra 200.

Extra £200? Triban 3 is £299 and the new Triban 5a is £429.99 (was £399.99) it's not quite £200 but having recently bought the 5a i would say go for it

People say that the red Triban 3 is a bit of a deal, and that the white Triban 3 is a bit cheaper but with a lower spec. Others say that the black Triban 5 is good but will cost a bit more.

Just passing on the gossip...

Red T3 (2012)- carbon fork
White T3a (2013) - no carbon fork, same as a carrera tdf from Halfrauds
White T5 (2012) - good bike, but few bought it as the T3 was such great value.
Black T5a (2013) - the only decent choice from decathlon for road bikes now.

So buy a red T3 if you can get your hands on one or stump up and buy the black T5a

I'm thinking about getting the t5a now mainly, but loads of reviewers seem to not even mention the Triban.

Are there any other bikes around this price point which are just a better deal? I was under the impression that the Triban punched well above its price point.

the red Triban 3 did, and Decathlon realised they can market it for more, but painting it black and calling it the new 5.
i have the red T3 and with a change of wheels/tyres and a decent saddle - it isn't far off my Giant Defy which cost a lot more.

the 5a has sora gears and changers which is the main upgrade from the red 3

i bought the 5a as i could not get a red 3 in my size (and I dont like red bikes) and I'm very happy with it, only complaint was the brakes but 8 quid on some new blocks sorted that
