I was round at father in laws looking at his new bike today. It's a second hand Scott e bike and very nice it is too. His neighbour has a few bikes and we got talking about e bikes and standard bikes and then on to his bike collection which included a yellow Genesis Equilibrium 20.... I happened to mention it was a shame I didn't know he owned one a year ago as I had considered getting one. He's known the in laws for donkeys years and offered me a ride on it, I only had cycling shoes and a few bits in van but jumped at the chance.
I only went on the back roads over to Kirkby Lonsdale but what a lovely bike to ride. I'm ashamed to say that I enjoyed it way more than my ride yesterday on the new MTB and came back smiling and feeling much more chuffed with myself than I have on the last 3 rides which were all on the MTB. I could happily ride that bike in summer, winter all year all weathers all terrain and not get bored.
We got talking afterwards and he remarked on the croix de fer and how that would probably be a better year round bike and highly regarded. Capable of the single tracks around me and some. Sad to say but I feel I may have bought the wrong bike but dunno what I can do about it now. I had doubts yesterday, when I called wife offering to meet her on way back home for a brew "come in the van and I can chuck bike in back", basically because I didn't want to ride back home so then riding that for an hour or so today was a bit of a sickner. I think I'm a roadie and always will be .....what the feck am I going to do ???????

If you had a Croix de fer same colour as the single speed if you only ever got them out of the shed one at a time your better half may not notice.n+1 is the only answer.

Another bike is not a possibility but trading MTB for a croix or datum would bring down her wrath and probably several nights of silence but I loved the ride today and looking forward to getting the single speed out tomorrow with my little boy. MTB feels more like an occasional bike but at 1700 quid it's a expensive mistake. I'm off to Spain in December we so could swop bikes and take it with me so she wouldn't know till January on my return :shy:
