Have been thinking of changing my shifters. My bike is a triple and 8 speed. Can I change the shifter on the chain ring to a double, and just take the granny gear off to make it a double?
Is the spacing between the sprockets the same on the triple and the double?
Or do I have to bye a new chain ring?

Nobody is forcing you to use the granny ring, so why not just ignore it if you don't need it?

One day though, you will encounter a 20% climb into a headwind when you are knackered and then you will be grateful for it - I certainly was when it happened to me!

I got the shimano sora 3300 with the thumb shift and don't like them. Have been looking on EBay at shifters and most of them are for double. That's why I asked the question

Iirc, yes you could change the shifters and make it a double. The limits are set by the limit screws. You can use a triple shifter for a double. But you can't use double shifters to operate a triple.

Swapped my sora shifters( thumb ones) for the newer paddle soda shifters and can't tell you how much better they feel.
