So... I'm walking through Solihull about 7 weeks ago and I just happen to walk past this new Gallery shop that's opened, and glanced at the painting in the window. I must have walked on two shops before I turned and walked back to look at it. It was a beautiful oil painting of a mountain side with a moody misty sky. I've never seen anything quite like it and as I walked away, I again returned to see how much it was...

I stood and stared at the colours and brush strokes and I thought to myself "I'd like to give that a go". Anyway, didn't do much about it until I returned from Boston 3 weeks ago and, sitting at my desk with post holiday blues, I decided to drop in to Hobby Craft on the way home. Spent an hour wandering aimlessly around the paint isles looking at the vast array of oil, acrylic and watercolour paints. Finally walked out armed with a beginner set, a oil painting paper pad, some brushes and a canvas.
One week later, and a youtube tutorial, i produced this...
Then i painted this, from a photo my brother took...
i showed these to the woman in the Gallery (not on purpose, i went back with my mom to show my mom the painting i had seen and we got chatting) and she strongly recommended i took up an art class. Which i did the very next wednesday thanks to Google. This was my first effort from my art class (it's supposed to look "blocky" as the teacher didn't want me to blend it, coz that was next weeks lesson).
i've also painted this.

and i'm now doing some acrylic paintings because i've ran out of room to dry the oil ones (i've only got a tiny flat) of which i've sold a few. But this is my current project, which is oil, it's not finished yet. My mate was like "can you do my Kylie" and i was like... "don't be so feckin stupid!". but turns out i can
. i wanna take my time with this, i'm currently blending her which is why some parts look better than others, but i'm rather pleased with how she's turning out so far. After i've blended i've got to glaze her to bring out her skin tone (i currently have no idea how to do this LOL).
And that's what happens when you get your a.s.s. off the internet (and you also see whales). So it just goes to show you should try new stuff all the time, because if i hadn't been inspired by the Gallery painting, and then nipped into Hobby Craft 3 weeks ago, I would never have known I could paint.
