Morning All,

Up too early to see a very cr@ap excuse for my heating oil delivery not turning up, have given the supplier a hard time. In the office for more mitigation and delegation, decent window seat but very dull outside.

My favourite excuse for someone not turning up was the chap who was supposed to be fitting a chimney lining, whose wife apologised on the morning he was supposed to be there, saying the "he had the flue".

I spent 3 weeks in Paris in '97 just before hip op No1. Walking stick in hand, the French were so accommodating to me - offering seats on the underground and giving me just a little bit more room etc etc. Helped that my French is slightly higher than tourist level and plenty of use of the vu and not tu respectively but I was still a foreigner.
The moment I got off the coach in Victoria on the way home, I got bundled over by some tw@t in a rush with a cursory 'sorry. but no assistance from anyone to help me up. I then crossed in pain to Paddington and the whole journey was just hell. No one offered assistance at any point. Me juggling a wheeled case and a walking stick, brown mark on my left side where I hit the grubby pavement in Victoria. I cannot imagine any city anywhere so bereft of understanding. I was a student and couldn't afford a taxi across 'town'.
I was in Barcelona and Bordeaux just after that after hip op No.3 and again (with walking stick), there were no issues. Treated so well.
Having also spent time in our Capital and surrounding areas from Hammersmith to Wandsworth to Clapham to Ilford to Seven Kings to Kentish Town to Hampton Hill, I have never felt endeared to the f*cking place.
Of all the major cities I have been in, it's low on the friendly/accommodating scale.
"...oh but there's so much you can do..." You can stuff your 'so much to do'. I would rather be somewhere where you can have a conversation easily, spontaneously.

Sorry. Rant over.

Impressed with your three hips, Jake.

A slightly fuzzy and tiring Monday means back to the gym today, then a site meeting.
Warming up slightly so no frost, dry tomorrow so considering a ride.

Went last night, had more exercise walking from where we could park then the actual gym, can’t wait for the new year new me people to nob off

There no excuse. Even if you didn't answer itd go through your letterbox.

Driver gave himself away by sending an email with the non-delivery reason at 5am. They don't start delivering until 6.30. The 'reason' given was that a smaller tanker was needed (I.e. driveway too narrow), even though it's well over 3m across and no other tanker has ever had a problem. Also the kerosene tank is less than 30m from the entrance and those tankers have at least 50m hoses. So they're lying bar stewards. I await my delivery and discount...

imo uk isn't as good as some other countries at recognising/helping, when i took my first flights post hip break, i could finally walk a bit, but needed crutches still for any distance

in the uk pretty much ignored, including at airports (i didn't book assistance as i didn't need it the buggy/wheelchair)

in portugal, airport attendants were spotting me and taking us to the front of queues at checkin, security, passport control etc., even restaurants were taking us to roomier tables

months on crutches certainly made me more aware when i see someone using them, that it can be a struggle, and help or give them a bit more time/space

Afternoon.
Its a bit of a dank one here.
Bertie was at the vets first thing for a weigh in and to get flea and worming stuff. Then took him for a walk trying to put the vets recommendations on how to get him walk better in to practice. Which had a limited success.
Just done some stretching followed by jumping in the recycling bin to try and get it to close. Will do some climbing later.

Royal Brompton all done, what a lovely team of people. Now going to do a bit of London (maybe Science Museum) before strolling back across Hyde Park to Paddington, where I might find something street-foody before my train at 7pm.

i'd recommend the v&a, rather than the science museum, which is a shadow of it's former self

Thanks. Yes, looked on through the windows of the SM, and it seemed to be all shop and bag checks.

In fact, the weather was so miserable, and I was too tired to be bothered, so I toddled back over Hyde Park to Paddington, where I'm going to slump for a couple of hours before my train.

I was going to do some local dining, but somehow I ended up in the staff canteen of the RB, and had a mahoosive venison lasagne for £4.75, and feel I might never have to eat again.

Well, not for at least the next 40 minutes.
