i keep thinking a turbo trainer could be usefull tool . but you so many for sale that have had little or no use at all . if i did get one it would have to be in the garage .

so what are the reasons people sell them after such little or no use

From what I can perceive two things

1) it's boring. Lack of motivation and you need to make your own fun

2) there's nowt like the road compared to indoors

I have a mint and pristine unused turbo trainer that is currently languishing in a cupboard. It was bought with the best of intentions - rehabilitation after a bout of chronic cellulitis buy I recovered faster than anticipated and my wife wouldn't let me use it in the spare room until the double glazing had bee replaced - no i don't follow her logic either. By the time the windows were don the weather was fine enough for riding so it never got used.

PM me if you want to buy a dust gatherer from me for your garage.

I have thought about buying one, but I won't. For me cycling is the sense of freedom and fresh air - not pedalling like a lunatic in your home!
I know it has it's uses , but I'd rather pick a crisp winter morning and go for a brisk ride

If you are serious about getting cycling fit but don't like cycling in bad weather, then buy a turbo-trainer and get stuck in! (I did about 100 very tough turbo-hours one winter and got very fit before the spring.)

If you are serious about getting cycling fit and don't mind cycling in bad weather, buy a good selection of cycling clothing instead, wear whatever suits the day and get stuck in on your bike outdoors!

If you are not serious about getting cycling fit - forget the turbo!

In the latter part of last year I didn't have a bike out here and so used to ride a turbo in the gym six days a week. It was boring and doesn't compare with riding a bike but it certainly kept me fit and when I did get a bike I was up to speed very quickly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As others have written, so many must get bought with the best of intentions then when the boredom and discomfort set in, they get forgotten.

As Colin says, use one for a couple of one-hour sessions a week with a heart rate monitor and you'll feel the benefit very fast.

Because thy're horrible hateful things^_^ I have one which I only use in the depths of winter or when its really peeing it down I can just about last 30 minutes on it

I defiently want one but its looks like it will be an x mas present , short time at work and wife staying at home now with 2 young kids ( feck their expensive ) means buying a turbo is a luxury .

I've got one for sale in the classifieds right now, I'm selling it as whilst it's better than an exercise bike, I didn't like being so high up and it takes up too much room in my house with the bike on it plus setting it up in the house was a faff. I can't use the garage so I bought a spin bike which takes up less space.

Also selling a virtually brand new fizik seat.

Mine makes a useful bike stand. When its too dark/cr*p for riding the bike for pleasure or training, I prefer spin classes - someone else to motivate you and more sociable.
