I'd quite like turbo trainer, and I seriously wouldn't mind the 'monotony' (etc) that people speak of (I like rowing machines, for example... it's a bit like meditation for me... I can totally lose myself in repetitive exercise). However, if I got one, I'd like to have a bike mounted on it all the time, rather than faff around with skewers, putting roller tyres on it etc... bound to be a downside to using your regular bike on it... but I don't have (currently) a spare bike for such purposes.

I find my turbo trainer very useful when I am setting up the gears on my bike ...................... you mean thats not whats its for :giggle:

I put in about 1 to 2 hours most days, Dec - May when the weather was poor, in order to get into something like the condition I knew I wanted to be in now. (shed 20kg in that time) as Fnaar says its a lot easier if you have a bike to just leave on the trainer.

I also think it is a case of you get what you pay for and the use you get, so spend a couple of hundred on a basic set of rollers and it will become boring and require lots of will power to actually use it, hence why Turbos get slagged off and loads are for sale. Spend a decent wedge on a Tacx system and you have no boredom issues what with organised races over the net and HQ video rides in real time.

I cycle because I like being out in the fresh air.

If for some reason or another, I cannot cycle outside, I certainly will not be cycling indoors. I have more interesting things to do like watch paint dry.

And the difference it made is obvious!

(I first met oldfatfool on one of my forum rides last year and he is much slimmer and fitter now.)

I don't agree with watching TV or reading when using the turbo - if you have the energy to do that then you aren't trying hard enough! Why spend 2 hours spinning lightly and watching an episode of Lewis when you can rip your legs off for 45 minutes listening to some loud, fast music and achieve better results! :hyper:

I have a TT and think it's an excellent accessory. I used it quite recently in April for 3 short sessions when the weather was a total washout.

I've had a TT in the shed since the early nineties, started out with a second hand one, one of the big white frames, very useful for winter training but totally boring to use, thats the main reason they get sold. I used to do the spring reliability trials and used to do winter training for those, more recently I used the turbo to get fit again after my angina problems in 2008, and having been ill earlier this year I will be on the turbo in the shed next winter, listening to music and watching the heart monitor bounce round, trying to get my fitness back again.

Only had mine one day, but decided to get one as I am currently half way through chemo for Leukemia I feel too week to go for a ride outside, so at the moment the TT suits my needs.

Husband is very good at using his if weather is way too fowl. I tried it a couple of times but was so bored after just 5 minutes. No thanks.
A friend recently sold his on ebay - his ad was so brilliant it was re-tweeted (or whatever) by several pro riders. That was the most entertainment anyone would ever get from a turbo trainer.
