Turning Right from a Side Rd - positioning ?

where do you folks position yourself when waiting to turn right from a side road (with no keep left bollard) into a main road ?

I'm only asking, in order to avoid being wiped out by the cagers who turn right from the main road, but in their selfish haste cut completely across the junction and would hit you head on. (They can't do this when there is a central bollard)

I guess ideally I put myself 2 or three feet to the left of the centre of the road, but then at the moment I never join any fast roads so it may differ depending on your situation. I guess the main thing you need to prevent is someone behind you pulling up on your right.

I put myself 2-3 ft from the right of my lane and just behind the stop line. If any right-turning large vehicles turn into the oncoming lane next to me, I'll move over if they need me to. The stop line should be placed to allow for this though as cars are unlikely to reverse to make room for oncoming right-turning traffic.

I usually position my self in the middle of the lane or just right of that about a ft back from the giveway line, if the roads empty or I'm at the front of a queue of traffic and I've never had a problem. If I'm in a queue of traffic, I just stay behind the lead vehicle let it take the impact if there's a numpty turning from the main road and cutting the corner, its never happened though.

??? Do you mean left???

Turning right from from a side road (with no keep left bollard) into a main road: I’d position myself anywhere from the center of the lane to a few feet LEFT of the central white lines - take the lane if its narrow or, go further right and allow vehicles turning Left space to do so, especially if you are held up by traffic on the main road preventing you from turning right.

[FONT=&quot]Depending on the junction, be prepared to allow bigger vehicles to “cut the corner” if you can. In theory it’s your priority if you are on the left BUT larger vehicles may need to cut the corner when turning. If I was driving the larger vehicle turning right into the minor road I’d let the cyclist or car go first, but not all do. Even if you are in the right – try and avoid conflict and relax in the knowledge that the idiot driver will eventually clip the corner when a police car is there etc….[/FONT]

Its not larger vehicles thats the problem, its the boy racer types who are taking a racing line.
I guess the solution is to approach the junction slowly, in order to anticipate their crazy manoeurve and jink to the left if necessary
