Turning the Mobile Clock Back?

Has anyone gone smartphone and then gone back to something simpler? I've had a little while now on my Nokia 610 and I don't like it. This was my first new phone in many years and replaced an old Samsung clamshell design phone. I felt forced into the replacement because the Samsung would only hold charge for a day or two and any level of use ran it down even faster.

What don't I like? - even with my extremely low useage it needs regular charging, I want something that needs charging about once a month - I miss the clamshell design for ease of carrying and pretending to be in Star Trek - I only use the phone for calls and a very low amount of texts(think 1 per week), all the rest of it I've not used apart from initial testing.

Come on, I can't be alone here, let's hear from all the old time curmudgeons and their solutions

I have a £30 s/market PAYG with simple camera. It's better than Mrs As smartphone as I can use it abroad and it can often get a signal when she can't and goes for days w/o recharging. Got its downside, like a keyboard would be nice but I can live without.

I can't pretend to have given up my smartphone but I do also run an old clamshell phone specifically for when I know I won't be able to charge it as often eg. LEL (although it will struggle to get through that without a charge) and going oop north where there's not enough signal to make it worth having a smartphone.

Then again if someone could arrange for me to go back to the days of two devices: electronic PDA and phone, I would.

good point, my first choice for stuff a smart phone can do is a desktop, followed by a laptop and finally I have a Nexus - there's no way I'm doing online stuff on the tiny screen a smartphone offers, I've tried and it's a pain in the butt

My thing is I don't really do convergence. I don't listen to music on my phone, my ipod is designed for that. I take my camera if I'm going to be taking lots of photos and so on.

I tried going back to a simpler phone, a Sony-Ericsson K750 I had laying in a drawer and hated it. I'd forgotten what a pain it was trying to send a text on a numeric keypad.
That said, it went back in the drawer just in case as the battery lasts days and its proven to be as tough as old boots.

I am very tempted to go back two steps in my phones. My current Sony Xperia Arc is rubbish. My last Sony, a W995i, is a bit chunky and the battery is knackered but otherwise quite good. So I am tempted to go back to the previous Sony C902, which I currently use as a spare PAYG emergency phone and a music player. It is small, slim, has great sound, a good camera, and good battery life.

I would never go back but my son 18 yrs old prefers his retro phones to his smart phones. I find that rather intriguing. He can text at an amazing rate without a keypad.

Yep. Kept the Apple Smartphone as a standby and am using an older Nokia. So old it doesn't even have a number on it.
Smaller, lighter, with a clearer speaker. It even makes phone calls. (with a little help from me of course)

I would go back 2 phones at the most to the Sony k800 as it was a cracking phone!! Htc wildfire was good but not a good enough processor inside to do what I want!! My current Sony Xperia miro is good but not great!! I wouldn't get rid of it because I wouldn't be able to read half the stuff on here without and I refuse to go down the I road! This is compact and reasonable camera and also saves getting laptop out half the time just to look up a bit of info on something.

I'm going to change I'm just in two minds, do I go back to my favoured clamshell mobile phone design? Or do I take up the very generous offer I've just received by private message for an exciting new product? It's a modern pocket version morse code transmitter and, coupled with a big 200lb reel of cable, enables you to send telegrams at almost no points anywhere on the planet. Only £5k and brought to me by ThreeSandwichesShortofaPicnic Acme Inc - it almost seems too good to be true.
