To see what the weather will be like I find it best to just look out of the window and see for myself then make a decision based on that. Better than the useless forecasts these days. I reckon it's the crap climate/weather models they use these days, probably based around the nonsense idea that CO2 is a major force in what happens.

Are you trying to start a fifty page argument about climate change?

Anyone got any crisps?

Can we go straight to page fifty and avoid all the stuff in-between.

On TV I like to watch the BBC weather forecast but ignore what is said and make my own mind up, it and other forecasts can be wrong (especially if its windy) up until about 6 hours before. If I wake up and its horrible but I'm itching to get out I like to check Raintoday and their weather radar from that I can usually judge quite well if the weather is passing over quickly or not and if or not its clear behind it ;-)
Other weather sites I like to check out are the met and metcheck
But I wouldn't take any forecast for granted ;-)

if I want to do my own forecast for the next couple of hours based on rain cloud movement over the previous 4 hours or so.

Me too ... though somehow Bristol has magically parted the rain clouds for the last few days as I have looked back to see where the rain had gone each time when I got back in.... we were supposed to be having a wet late morning / afternoon with lots of rain ... literally the first light drops have now arrived. (Though more look to be on their way .... but I got home dry which I wasn't expecting having taking in my full wet weather gear - instead cycled home in just a T-shirt.

I am sure that the local weather reports yesterday were saying it was going to pour down for most of today, I took my full compliment of waterproofs into work for the expected drowning on the way home (1pm)
Was pleasantly surprised that they got it so wrong and it has stayed dry all day up to now

I do tend to use XC weather for the wind direction and strength, also the BBC Northwest tonight forecast, though that is mainly to see Eno

Oooh, I've not had Monster Munch for *years*.

Om nom :hungry:

I also took full waterproofs to work today in anticipation of the deluge the BBC weather had been forecasting for today.Rain didn't arrive until 4 ish was home well before then.

I feel as though i have been robbed of three days cycling this week.I always watch the 6-30 programme Look North.Normally the forecasting is pretty good.So i make my decisions for the week on those. We like to get out early. But rain, heavy or light has been forecasted most days.Well again this morning its turning out half decent, and am still here.
What weather stations do you lot check on,before you make your decisions.

You're spot on there. I got a very early ride in yesterday and braved the cold and dismal morning as I'd been confidently informed it was going to be a very wet, cold and windy afternoon. It wasn't; the PM was dry, fairly warm and less windy than that morning. Useless gets, the lot of them

I once read that two neighbouring stations in America ran a trial weather thing with one station reporting that conditions tomorrow were an exact duplicate of today while the other used the info provided for them from a multi-million dollar meteoro...metero....meet... weather station. At the end of a six week period, they discovered the station predicting 'more of the same tomorrow' were right 54% of the time. The station using the services of the state-of-the-art weather station were correct 26% of the time.

Pretty much the same here. Watching the rain clouds appear and disappear makes you realise why the forecasters sometimes get it wrong. Bracknell was in the middle of a bizarre dry patch at around 4pm today, surrounded by rain. Of course, the rain hit just in time for my ride home, but that's just a typical Friday evening.
